Entry Schedule

The Wait List: Sixty-four people sent in their checks within the time limit to retain their waiting list priority. New people on the waiting list now will be placed at the bottom. One has already done that. See next for our guess on your chances if you join the wait list now.

What Are My Chances of Getting off the Wait List? Unlike last year, we have a long wait list. We don't have enough experience with this to predict whether someone at the bottom will get in the race. Here are some thoughts:

Ways You Can Help

Bad News/Good News! We changed the rule on refunds this year. If you withdraw from the event after March 10, we will only give you a refund if there is someone on the wait list to fill your place. While that rule is still in effect, it is probably moot given the length of this year's waiting list.

Withdrawal: If you want to withdraw from the event, please use the withdrawal form.

We will use the same system for entry as we have used for the last two years. Entry is a two step process. You fill out the application on one occasion, then you come back later and pay. If too many people apply, we will have a lottery to see who may pay to enter the race and who will have to apply for the Waiting List. (We did not need the lottery for the 2009 event.)

The application period is January 25-February 1. We will pick the entry field and prioritize the waiting list on February 2. During the period February 5-15, those eligible to enter must pay the entry fee, and those wanting to be on the Waiting List must mail in a check.

Priorities: If we need to use a lottery, the initial field will be selected randomly. Each applicant has an equal chance of being in the initial starting field. We will, however, have priorities on the Waiting List. Given our experience with movement off the waiting list, we expect that these priorities will be significant. In 2008 and 2009, everyone who participated in the initial entry process was able eventually to enter the event.

Here are the priorities. Within groups, ranking is by the random number that is assigned in the entry process.

  1. Applicants who, on three prior occasions, served as pre-committed volunteers at either BRR or MMT
  2. Prior overall winners of the men's or women's division of the BRR
  3. Finishers of prior BRRs, ranked by number of finishes

After February 15, we will reopen the waiting list for persons who did not apply in the initial lottery or who did, but did not complete the process in a timely manner.

There is a full explanation of the 2010 entry procedure if you are interested. It is very detailed. You are welcome to read it, but you don't have to.

Refunds: We will issue entry fee refunds to those who withdraw from the event subject to the following terms:

  1. Withdraw from the event must occur on or before April 1.
  2. $15 will be withheld from all refunds.
  3. Withdrawals after March 10 will only receive a refund if there is someone on the Waiting List to fill the vacancy created by the withdrawal. If there is no one on the Waiting List at the time of withdrawal, but someone joins the Waiting List later, we will issue refunds in the order requested.

To receive a refund, go to the withdrawal form.
